Dallas Literacy Day 2008

Dallas (November 17, 2008) - Educational First Steps (EFS) and its partners, the Dallas Zoo and the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) welcomed more than 2000 children and parents to the 2nd annual Literacy Day at the Dallas Zoo on November 9, 2008.  Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert greeted guests, spoke to the value EFS brings to early childhood education and presented the EFS Teacher and Director
of the Year awards.

Read for the Record 2008

Educational First Steps and American Airlines aligned with Jumpstart for the Dallas launch of Read for the Record on October 2. Jumpstart’s Read for the Record aims to break the world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day.

Preliminary UTD Study

Dallas (August 27, 2008) – Educational First Steps (EFS) today announced the results of a preliminary study led by Dr. Richard Scotch, Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).

Hearts for Smarts

Dallas (January 23, 2008) - Educational First Steps (EFS), American Airlines, the Dallas Mavericks, Fox 4 News,Tom Thumb and other EFS partners are giving their hearts this Valentine's Day in support of disadvantaged Dallas area children with the launch of the 2008 Hearts for Smarts Valentine Campaign. The campaign, which includes the sale of EFS Valentine Cards and T-shirts in Tom Thumb stores throughout Dallas and on the EFS Web site from now through February 14, 2008, is a whole-hearted effort by EFS to fund early childhood education programs for more than 2500 low income children ages birth to five.

Dallas Literacy Day 2007

Dallas (Sept. 13, 2007) - Educational First Steps (EFS) and the Dallas Arboretum will host a Literacy Day for EFS Affiliate Center families and other area families on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 from 11am to 3pm. The beauty of the Dallas Arboretum serves as the perfect venue for EFS and sponsoring partners in assisting parents with reading to their children. EFS is a non-protit organization which aids more than 60 childcare centers serving low income families across Dallas County.
